In Frida I trust...

Door Tiany op 20/06/12

When questioned about my fashion icons, I seem to constantly repeat myself... as the only person I seem to come up with, is the Mexican artist/painter Frida Kahlo. Known for her unibrow -which I have fancied in the past but now find a bit repelling- and her bombastic and colorful portraits of mostly herself. Frida had this sense of style that totally appeals to me and a to die for collection of XL jewels. Coming to think about it, she might have even invented the so called statement necklace.

If she'd still be around, I would've probably asked her to adopt me. I'm somehow guessing I'm not alone...

Trio of beaded bangles bought at Les Puces, earrings available at Twice As Nice and then there's the whole shabaam of necklaces.... beaded Afro Look necklace is from H&M, the coral red one is available at Manuel Opdenakker and the one with the coins is from a shop in Amsterdam.

KiriLOVE Frida

With this philosophy in mind, I decided to take in a dive in my closets , I grabbed every possible necklace I could find, mixed it up with the boldest of prints and colors and topped it of with this traditional Russian scarf that was given to me by Clinique on a press trip to Moscow. For the occasion I asked my favorite flower boy Mr Mark Colle of Baltimore to design me a crown of flowers and to allow me to shoot in his ab fab flower shop in Antwerp...

Behold the results of a fantastic 2 hours of shooting with Mr Dirk Alexander and the lovely assistance of lady Aline... we had a great laugh during my role of La Frida and I'm extremely proud to be able to show you our creation... I think I really would've been a great daughter, although eventually I would've plucked Frida's excessive brows over a siesta or so.
